VISION Writers Group
VISION was formed to give science fiction, fantasy and horror writers in Queensland a chance to meet their peers, have their work critiqued and critique the work of others. We're about writing, critiquing, sharing experiences and expanding the opportunities for speculative fiction writers in Queensland and Australia. And that's what we do.
The group is centred on our monthly meetings and the Discussion List but there are lots of other things we do that you can become involved in, if you like. Our aim is to foster a literature-based speculative fiction community that produces good stories and good writers.
Meetings
Meetings run from 11am to 2pm on the first Sunday of each month, except for January and December. We meet at The State Library of Queensland, South Bank, Brisbane.
Meetings costs $4, with an initial one-off $10 membership, which makes you eligible to enter any anthologies we produce or competitions/events we participate in.
Each meeting someone new chairs, so things tend to be done a bit differently month to month. But there are some constants. We spend most of the meeting critiquing work.
It is perferred that longer works (approx up to 6000 words) be uploaded to the File area of the Yahoo Group Discussion List. The works can then be downloaded by members who read the submissions and write notes ready for the critique session at the next month's meeting. Sometimes shorter pieces (normally under 4000 words or so) are occassionally read and critiqued at meetings.
We also share news of our successes and failures, and discuss views about places to publish our work. Come along sometime and see for yourself.
